Bamboo flooring is becoming a very popular choice for many homeowners. Not only is it very durable and attractive flooring, it is also good for the environment. Bamboo flooring can be expensive and it only makes sense to protect and maintain your investment. If you have a busy household, then your floor is at even higher risk of being damaged. With all of that in mind, here are a few tips to help protect your floor:
The first thing you will want to do is ask people to take off their shoes when they enter your home. While this may make you uncomfortable, just think about the damage shoes and the dirt they leave behind can do to your floor!
Furniture Feet Pads
If you feel this is an impossible task and have guests or rowdy kids who may simply forget, then at least place a mat at each doorway. This way people can wipe off their shoes before walking on your floor. It isn't as effective as having people remove their shoes, but every little bit can help.
Another good idea is to put runners is heavy traffic areas. Kids may run outside in their bare feet in the Summertime or walk around a dirty basement without shoes on. So even if you have a "no shoes" rule, it doesn't mean dirt won't find its way onto your precious floor. The less dirt and debris that touch your floor, the better.
If you have any furniture on your floor, it is a very good idea to place either an area rug or self-adhesive pads under the legs of tables, chairs and other decorative pieces. I always use self-adhesive pads on any moving furniture, such as chairs. A chair can be the biggest enemy of any floor, leaving behind unsightly scratches and dents.
As you can see, protecting your bamboo floor isn't as difficult as it would seem. All it takes is a little common sense and diligence on your part. Many of the tips above will only take a few minutes to implement, but will protect your floors for many years to come!
